OMS Grandparent's Day Information

The OMS Campus Grandparents’ Day is Monday, January 30. Our Grandparents (or substitute grandparents) are invited to join the students for mass at 10:30 AM.

Following the mass, grandparents are invited to visit the classrooms and then parents and students to host grandparents for a picnic lunch at school. We invite everyone (parents and grandparents) to join us for a "Sockhop” on the playground. Student dress on this day will be Dressy Dress (school appropriate attire).

Because the weather may be chilly for Grandparents' Day on Monday, January 30, we are going to offer our families who have grandparents coming that day two options:

  • Option #1: Grandparents will arrive at the Mission gardens by 10:15 to be greeted by grandchildren and join us for mass. After mass, grandparents will come to school for their bistro or picnic lunch and stay for the sock hop. If the weather is clear, families may set up tables in front of school, on the playground, or under the covered walk. If there is rain, these grandparents will have their family lunch in the classroom and stay for the musical entertainment. Grandparents and grandchildren are dismissed at 12:45 PM. The rest of the school will be dismissed at the conclusion of the sock hop at 1 PM.
  • Option #2: Grandparents will arrive at the Mission gardens by 10:15 to be greeted by grandchildren and join us for mass. After mass, grandparents who would rather not brave the elements may sign out their grandchildren in the front office and go out to lunch. My only request would be that the grandchildren host and pay for lunch. Grandparents are being celebrated, and should be the luncheon guests.

It would be a good thing for your family to decide ahead of time which option you would like. Be sure everyone comes back down to the school after mass before any student is signed out. All students must be signed out in the front office.

The schedule will look like this:

10:15: Grandchildren will greet their grandparents by the fountain next to the church

10:30: Catholic Schools Week Mass with grandparents

11:30 - 11:45: Grandparents will visit classrooms

11:45 - 12:15: See option #1 or #2 above

12:15 - 12:45: “Sockhop” on the playground

12:45: Dismissal of grandchildren, parents, and grandparents. All other students will
meet with their teachers in the classroom and help with putting classrooms
back in order. Eighth grade will return benches and picnic tables to their
normal areas

1:00: Dismissal of all other students. ASA is available.
