Join us as we celebrate a Living Rosary and the Crowning of Mary in honor of the mother of Jesus.

This event will take place on the OMS playground on Monday, May 2 at 9:15 am.  We ask students decorate a large can or plastic container and bring it to school, along with flowers from home on May 2 to help with these reverent festivities.

All families are invited to attend. We also need parents to snip stems and arrange flowers, starting at 7:45 am that morning.

Please bring your garden clippers!

Policy Regarding Parent Deliveries during the School Day on the OMS Campus

On the Old Mission School campus, we are working very hard to help students develop personal responsibility and accountability.

We have adopted a policy of not accepting the delivery of papers, books, reports, projects, and other items that parents might bring to school because the students have forgotten them. We never want to teach students that someone will follow behind them in life to ensure they have their personal materials. In the bigger picture of life, we all want our students to feel confident and self-reliant. Please help by discussing this policy in a very positive way with your children, so students fully understand how this policy will help them prepare for live in the 21st century.

Parents may still drop off lunches. Lunches will be placed outside the office on a lunch table. Please be sure your students know the place to find lunch deliveries, and please be sure their names are clearly written on the lunches.

Spring Cleaning? Reduce-Reuse-Recycle!

Our Parent Club will be holding its Third annual Recycled Uniform and Used Textbook sale before you know it!

We need your support with donations of gently-worn, laundered uniforms (including Walk-A-Thon shirts) and used textbooks. Unfortunately, we can't take uniforms that are torn or stained.

You can drop off items in the donation bin in front o the OMS office any time until the office closes for summer.

For more details, or to volunteer to work at the sale, please email omsuniformsale@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support!

Support Your School by Placing a Mi$$ion Family Ad!

Do you have something to sell?  Perhaps a guitar? Or a Kayak? Are you a Mission family with a business who would like to advertise your services or offer a discount?

Mission Family Ads are classified ads for OMS Parent Club fundraising. They can be submitted by OMS parents, staff, students, or associates of OMS.

They will be connected to a link in the weekly newsletter and on the home page of the website.  All ads are a full-page and cost $15 per week, or $45 per month.  Payment is made to the OMS Parent Club.

Ads can be submitted by Tuesday at 2 PM to be in the Friday newsletter.  If you have any questions or would like to put an ad in the newsletter please contact ad coordinator Kathy Schwanitz at kschwanitz2006@gmail.commmor BJ Woods at the OMS office or bjwoods@omsslo.com.

OMS Student Store Website

Did you know Old Mission School has a student store website?

You will be able to pick up the ordered merchandise at J. Carrol or Old Mission School at no extra charge.  Also, you can have the items shipped to your home or work at the cost of shipping.

Items marked "OMS Uniform Approved" for easy shopping.   Look for the "approved" stamp to ensure that it is dress-code and uniform appropriate. Please note that just because the item was purchased on the student store website, does not mean it adheres to the dress-code guidelines (with the exception of backpacks and lunch bags.)

The merchandise is the same clothing items that have been ordered for the last few years. However, there has been another jacket option added to the "Logo Items" section. Sample sizes of all the merchandise will be available at J. Carrol - 113 Cross St., SLO (behind Trader Joe's)

We have sample sizes of the sweatshirts only at OMS. In the meantime, head to J. Carroll and try on the merchandise for the best fit.

Their web address is:    http://omsfalcons.com

Important Student Release Information:

During the school day, we will release your child only to those people listed on their emergency card.

If you are planning to have a friend, relative, or neighbor whose name is not on the emergency card pick up your child from school, you must send a note with your child. We cannot release students without written permission from parents. By law, a telephone call will not be sufficient for student release.

We Need Your Help!

Please make after-school/sibling/tutoring arrangements with your children before you drop them off at school each day.

The office is being swamped by parents calling (sometimes 2-3 times a day!) asking for a message to be given to their children before school dismisses.  These calls really add up and create unnecessary additional work in our already very busy front office.

Also, if your child is ill or cannot attend school, please call or email the school office at 543-6019 before 9:00 AM. This is very important. BJ will have to call you if you do not call in, and you can help her avoid a cumbersome task. So, we thank you in advance for teaming with her to protect your children.

We appreciate your assistance with these requests!

OMS Extended Care Policy

There have been some questions regarding the after school care sign in.  Here are the official requirements

1)  The official clock for determining check-in and check-out time for extended care is the clock in room nine.

2)  With the staggered dismissal schedule, charges for care will not start until 3:10 PM. But at 3:10 PM, every student still on the school grounds must be supervised by a school staff member (a coach, a teacher, or the ASA staff). Siblings of students on a sports team must be signed in ASA. Siblings of students being tutored must be signed into ASA, unless they, too, are with a tutor.

3)  Students whose parents are meeting with a teacher must wait outside the classroom on a bench if they are not part of the conference. If they want to play on the school grounds, they must be signed into ASA.

4)  Only adults listed on the emergency card may pick up students in ASA.

ASA telephone number after 3:45 PM is 548-0299

OMS Legacy Campaign: Middle School Annex

We are pleased to share with you our new Annex to Old Mission School, a downtown satellite campus serving our growing middle school population.

Old Mission Church and Mission College Prep offered to make available its shares of a property on Palm Street, directly across from the Mission parking lot, for the purpose of creating a Middle School satellite campus only two blocks from Old Mission School. The property was owned jointly by the Church and the Catholic schools of San Luis Obispo and housed the OMS business office. The new campus is now home to four new classrooms, a restroom facility, and an office, an outdoor classroom and a teacher prep area!

For more to learn more about the new Middle School Annex, please visit the OMS Legacy Campaign page.

Old Mission School Teachers are now Online and on Twitter!

OMS teachers now have individual wiki pages containing live twitter feeds with classroom updates.

OMSEvery teacher's wiki page will provide regular updates regarding homework assignments, class news, and important announcements.

If you have as Twitter account, make sure to """follow" your children's teachers. If you don't have a Twitter account, don't worry. It is not necessary for you to have one in order to view teachers' Twitter feeds - just click on one of the following links:
