Character Counts

Classes will be engaged in classroom activities each day to learn about the six pillars of citizenship for a fun and productive week! If you have any questions, contact Teri Stegman, Character Counts! coordinator at ext. 15.

CaringMonday, October 27: CARING & Citizenship

Be kind. Be compassionate.  Show you care. Express Gratitude. Forgive others. Help people in need. Get involved in service. Respect authority, and protect the environment

Dress: Wear red shirts or t-shirts today! Students may wear jeans or pants of any color if their shirts are red. CARING is represented by red to represent a red heart, and this is the day we will include caring for our bodies by staying drug-free.

Help Win the Fight Against Cancer

Through the month of October, the first grade will conduct service project to help fight breast cancer with the "Save Lids, Save Lives" campaign.

Please send in your pink Yoplait yogurt lids to the first grade. Yoplait will donate ten cents per lid in the fight against breast cancer. Fifth grade will be collecting until Friday, November 14.

First graders will mail them in to help save lives. Thank you!

Please Share Your School Photos with Us!

We are in need of photos for the yearbook and for our facebook page.

Please send photos to omsphotos33@gmail.com. You may also submit cds to the front office, please write "For Yearbook" on the disk, or you may share with us at omsphotos33@gmail.com on Dropbox.

We are especially looking for school event photos – first day of school, Halloween, Walkathon, Class Awards, Class Parties, Field Trips, Advent Program, etc.

You get the picture; we're proud of our students!

October is "Respect Life" Month

The students are collecting items for the very young  and the very old in honor of Respect Life month throughout October. Families may donate items for  babies which will be given to ALPHA. We are also collecting items for the elderly such as lotions,  slippers, large print crossword puzzles, talcum powder, and other items that will be given to care  centers. ALPHA items may be turned in to Stefani Higuera in room 4. Items for the elderly may be  turned in to Mary Donnelly in room 3.

Here’s a list of what’s “hot” with the elderly at the care centers:

  • Lipstick
  • Non-skid soled slippers
  • Hair doodads
  • Socks
  • Shower and baby powders
  • Perfumes & colognes
  • Large print decks of cards
  • Large print crossword & puzzle books
  • Coloring books and crayons (yes, you read that right)

These things are NOT acceptable as donations:

  • Hair spray (it’s flammable)
  • Shampoos & soaps (these are supplied)

Thank you!

OMS Student Store Website

Old Mission School has a student store website. You will be able to pick up the ordered merchandise at J.Carroll or Old Mission School at no extra charge. Also, you can have the items shipped to your home or work at the cost of shipping.

Items are marked “OMS Uniform Approved” for easy shopping.  Look for the "Approved" stamp to ensure that your purchase is dress-code and uniform appropriate.  The merchandise is the same clothing items that have been ordered for the last few years. However, there has been another jacket option added to the “Logo Items” section.

Sample sizes of all of the merchandise will be available at J.Carroll (113 Cross St, SLO—behind Trader Joe’s). We also have sample sizes of the sweatshirts only at OMS. In the meantime, head to J.Carroll and try on the merchandise for the best fit.

Happy shopping!!!

Cell Phone Policy

We are happy to allow students to bring cell phones to school. Many families feel it is a great way to stay in touch if there is an emergency or if a student needs to call back and forth after school.

Sixth through eighth graders must turn off and lock their phones in their lockers during the day.

If any younger students bring a cell phone, the phone must be turned off and kept in the backpack during the school day.

If a student's cell phone rings, vibrates, or is used during a normal school day, the phone will be sent to the principal's office and may be retrieved by the student with his/her parent after arrangements are made.

If this occurs a second time, the student may lose the privilege of having the cell phone with him/her.

Thank you for supporting our cell phone policy

OMS Legacy Campaign OMS Legacy Campaign

We are pleased to share with you a new vision for Old Mission School, the development of a downtown satellite campus to serve our growing middle school population.

Recently, Old Mission Church offered to make available its share of a property on Palm Street, directly across from the Mission parking lot, for the purpose of creating a Middle School satellite campus only two blocks from the present school site.  The property is owned jointly by the Church and the Catholic schools of San Luis Obispo and presently houses the OMS business office. The new campus would be home to four new classrooms, a restroom facility, and an office and a teacher prep area.

For more information, please visit the OMS Legacy Campaign page.

Old Mission School Teachers are now Online and on Twitter!

OMS teachers now have individual wiki pages containing live twitter feeds with classroom updates.

Every teacher's wiki page will provide regular updates regarding homework assignments, class news, and important announcements.

If you have a Twitter account, make sure to "follow" your children's teachers. If you don't have a Twitter account, don't worry. It is not necessary for you to have one in order to view teachers' Twitter feeds - just click on one of the following links:

If you need to get in touch with a teacher, please continue to either call or send an email (we're new to Twitter and want to make sure we are able to get back to you in a timely manner).
